About Autism?
MAR-Autism, or maternal autoantibody-related autism (MARA) is due to antibodies made by a mother’s immune system that affect the baby’s developing brain. The MAR-Autism™ Test looks for these antibodies in mom’s blood and aids in the diagnosis of autism.

A positive result explains this subtype of autism, supports provider discussions, and informs future family planning.
My child has developmental concerns but no diagnosis
No more “wait and see”.
Testing provides answers for you and your provider, enables earlier access to care, and guides treatment monitoring and future family planning.
What could your result tell you?
Positive result
The autoantibody combinations associated with MAR-autism were detected. A positive result is associated with a greater than 97% risk of an autism diagnosis in a current or future biological child.
Negative result
The autoantibody combinations associated with MAR-autism were absent. Your result indicates a low risk that current or future children would be affected by the MAR-autism subtype.

Frequently asked questions

The MAR-Autism Test can accelerate the diagnosis and initiation of intervention for children whose mothers test positive. Early intervention is known to significantly improve quality of life for individuals with autism. Preconception testing can be useful for women with a high likelihood of having an autistic child, allowing them to consider options like gestational surrogacy, adoption, or preparing for a child with an elevated likelihood of high support needs.

No. You can either request through your healthcare provider or request here using our telehealth partner.
-
You submit a request for testing to the telehealth provider. Once they approve your order, you sign into our patient portal, sign a consent, and make payment. We ship you a blood draw kit to the address you provided on your intake form, and work with you to schedule a blood draw at a lab location near you. After the draw, the phlebotomist will ship your specimen to our lab. You will receive your results in the patient portal within 14 days of the specimen receipt in our lab.

MAR-Autism is a non-genetic cause of autism that is caused by the presence of specific autoantibody combinations present in the mother of an affected child. These maternal autoantibodies can cross the placenta and the fetal blood–brain barrier, disrupting neuronal development. Early findings also link antibodies associated with MAR-Autism to higher ADOS scores and an increased likelihood of higher support needs.

Test results are completed within 14 days of our laboratory receiving your specimen. Your results will be available through our online portal.
